“Walking a Mile” with Robert Browning Hamilton

Read this last night and loved it. I hope it does something for you as well:

I walked a mile with Pleasure;
She chatted all the way;
But left me none the wiser
For all she had to say.

I walked a mile with Sorrow,
And ne’er a word said she;
But, oh! The things I learned from her,
When sorrow walked with me.

I have certainly enjoyed life’s pleasures. But there is absolutely no doubt that it’s been the pain and discomfort which have taught me the most. They enable me to grow, and they stretch me into places from which I later look back with gratitude.
